THE WAR DIDN’T NEED TO HAPPEN
Danzig became part of Poland because of the Treaty of Versailles even though it was 99% German people. The Poles were raping and murdering the Danzig population and they voted to be part of Germany. Hitler begged Poland and Britain to let him bring in troops to protect his countrymen there but both Countries said no. Britain had a secret agreement with Poland to protect them if Germany were to attack but they did not have the troops to keep that promise. Meanwhile Hitler made a secret pact with the Soviets to back Germany if it should come to war with Poland. So Poland was enboldened to defy Hitler’s request.
Finally , Hitler could not stand by and watch his people be abused any longer and went in. Britain warned Hitler that if he didn’t withdraw his troops within the next day, Britain would feel obligated to declare War on Germany. He didn’t believe Britain would actually do anything to stop him. But Britain felt compelled to keep it’s promise to Poland even though they were not equipped to do anything. It was a terrible move and led to a chain reaction of France declaring War on Germany the next day because of a pact they had to defend Britain in time of War.
If Britain had just let Hitler protect his people in Danzig and leave them to sort out their feud with Poland, that would have been the end of the battle and the War could have been prevented.

POLISH CONFLICT
THE POLISH CONFLICT: The Poles were murdering and raping the huge German poplulation in Danzig and even though Hitler kept trying to negotiate with Britain and France, and the Polish Government, no one would listen. There were more than 80,000 ethnic Germans in Refugee camps in Danzig and the Rhine. Germans were being slaughtered by the Polish in Western Prussia. Hitler is quoted as saying: Europe can’t expect that Germany will allow this state of affairs to carry on much longer.
